Tewkesbury Labour remains proud of the achievements of Clement Attlee and the post war renewal of the UK, led by him and his Government.  What they achieved and the changes they wrought in our country remain embedded in our culture and our society to this day.

They include:

  • The introduction of universal child benefits, unemployment benefits, old age pensions, and extra benefits for the destitute
  • A massive house building programme, partly to replace houses
destroyed in the Blitz and to clear Victorian slums. Much of this
housing was council housing (houses owned by the local council and
    rented out)
  • The creation of the National Health Service. This provided free health
care, including optical and dental care, to everyone. It was the most
    popular of the reforms introduced

Tewkesbuy believe it is only under Labour that the people of our country and our communities thrive universally.

We have seen 10 years of Tory rule, during which time the country has become more divided and inequality has worsened.  We have a Prime Minister in Boris Johnson, who is lazy, incompetent and cares little for anyone other than himself.

We know during the last 10 years Labour hasn’t always been a party the people of Tewkesbury were willing to support.  Now under the new leadership of Sir Keir Starmer we believe we are ready to represent you.
